In The Name Of ALLAH
Assalamu alaikum:
At a time when watches, cellphones and other constant reminders
of what time it is did not exist, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and
blessings be upon him, was a remarkably punctual man.
This commitment to punctuality reflects good time management in
all aspects of his life. Our beloved role model, the mercy to all
human beings, knew that time, more than money, is life's most
valuable asset. And he knew how to balance this blessing of God.
The Prophet was able to spend time with his family without being
rushed; he could offer his prayers and then play around with the
neighborhood kids; he could discuss community affairs with the
right number of minutes to focus on an issue and then move on to
other things.
How did he do it? Seventh century Arabia of course is not 21st
century America. But time in these last 1400-plus years hasn't
changed. We still have the same 24 hours, 1,440 minutes and
86,400 seconds all of humanity has had and continues to have
every day. The question is, what are we using this blessing of
Allah for?
Time is the currency with which we "buy" our thoughts, words and
actions for which we will be accountable for on the Day of
Judgment. Don't think that hour wasted at Starbucks won't come
back to you. It will – on the Day of Judgment. And don't think
that those extra five minutes spent helping someone lost find
their way or digging into your pocket to drop some change into a
panhandler's cup don't matter. They do. And they, too, will come.
